Dear Runners and Parents:
Ms. Brush and Ms. Peirson are looking forward to a great XC season this school year. The 2018-2019 academic school year starts on September 6th. We will have an interest meeting after school on Thurs. Sept. 6th and practice will begin on Wed. Sept. 12th Please view the practice & meet schedule found above, but be aware that it is likely to change if weather issues arise. Before the season begins, all runners must have a proper physical and appropriate documentation turned in to the school nurse. Students cannot run without the proper documentation! Documentation is on the nurse's website and the link can also be found above. A physical exam must be conducted by the student’s doctor. This exam is good for one calendar year for all subsequent sports/activities.
Thank you,
Ms. Brush & Ms. Peirson

cross country expectations
The major focus for runners of this age group is participation and skill refinement. Students will learn how to warm-up, stretch, and run with proper posture, pacing, and self-awareness. We will focus on foot and arm mechanics and how to run competitively. Students are expected to show respect to each other and other schools, coaches, and officials. We expect our students in Little Silver to be outstanding citizens and role models for good sportsmanship.
What to expect at practices:
- Warm-up & cool-down routines (warm up run, stretching, etc.)
- Circuit Training (Core, Upper body, Lower body, Total body workouts; i.e. crunches, push-ups, burpees, etc.)
- Sprints & Running Drills
- Long Runs (timed runs)
Clothing:
Sneakers and loose, comfortable clothing which allows easy movement is all that is needed for running. In warm weather, runners prefer to wear T-shirts and shorts. In cooler weather, a pair of sweatpants or leggings and a sweatshirt or long-sleeves are practical. After running, it is important to replace wet, sweaty T-shirts with a clean, dry top of some kind to avoid catching a chill from cooling-off too quickly.
Diet:
There is no one correct diet for runners. Every athlete, however, will benefit from eating a well-balanced diet. Runners are encouraged to drink water frequently throughout the day and are permitted to drink during practices. Runners should bring water bottles to every practice and meet. Athletes should be aware that a large amount of water is usually lost through sweating during an intense activity. Adequate fluid intake during exercise is essential and critical. A good rule of thumb is that athletes should drink several cups of fluid in the hour before activity, every 20 minutes throughout the activity and afterward until all fluid has been replaced.
